Coure D'Alene, ID June 26th, 2005- First Endurance triathlete Michael Lovato was the first American across the line and third overall at the US Pro Ironman National Championship. In a race where six contenders were within two minutes of each other at the start of the run, it became evident that the strongest runners would win the race.
Ukrain's Victor Zyemtsev outran everyone with a blistering 2:49 marathon. Lovato used a balanced attack and solid run, to capture 3rd overall. Because he was the top US finisher, he won the US PRO Ironman title.
With pre-race favorite Simon Lessing taking an early lead, it looked like everyone else was racing for second place. Zyemtsev, Chris Legh, Brent Foster, Tom Soderdahl, Matt Seeley and Lovato all followed Lessing into the run. It was Zyemtsev and Lovato who set a strong pace early while Lessing began to falter. Lessing and Legh both dropped out of the race during the run leaving Zyemtsev, Soderdahl and Lovato to finish first, second and third.
Lovato took second at Ironman Arizona and 3rd at Coure D'Alene and is pleased with his fitness and form. "I've managed to train for and race two Ironmans and three halfs all in a span of fourteen weeks, and I still feel great." Lovato uses all the First Endurance products in training and a combination of E3 and Ultragen during Ironman racing.
