August 21, 2002 - OPTYGEN, by First Endurance, was ranked the number one endurance supplement in a recent study done by SupplementWatch™, Incorporated. Supplementwatch.com reviewed OPTYGEN by First Endurance and eight other popular endurance supplements. At the conclusion of the review, only OPTYGEN received the top rating “Try It!”
SupplementWatch™, Inc. is a self-funded, privately held corporation consisting of a small group of scientists, physiologists, nutritionists and other health professionals dedicated to educating people about the pros and cons of dietary supplementation. The SupplementWatch service was started in 1999 in response to the growing public confusion surrounding nutrition in general and dietary supplements in particular. The goal of SupplementWatch, Inc. is to clear up some of the confusion surrounding dietary supplements and provide timely, relevant and balanced advice to help people make informed decisions.
SupplementWatch, Inc. says: “OPTYGEN is certainly poised to offer a decent shot at improved oxygen efficiency – and reduced lactate and increased performance as a result. Chromium certainly has been associated with metabolic benefits related to blood sugar and insulin metabolism (better “fat burning”) and both cordyceps and rhodiola are among the few of the adaptogenic plants (besides Panax ginseng) that have scientific support for their effects in improving oxygen uptake.” The study then goes on to comment about the two key ingredients in OPTYGEN “Getting back to the combination of cordyceps and rhodiola – brilliant! – and why hasn’t anybody done it before 1st Endurance?” SupplementWatch, Inc. also recognized First Endurance’s positioning on research: “One of the aspects of the OPTYGEN formulation that we LOVE, however, is supported by First Endurance’s claim that they “refuse to reduce costs by using pixie dust amounts of ingredients just to dress up the label” – and BRAVO for them – because this is one of our pet-peeves when it comes to sports nutrition products (many companies add a milligram when a gram – or a thousand times more – is needed for benefits). Both cordyceps and rhodiola are present in what we would consider to be fully effective doses of these important (and expensive) ingredients.” SupplementWatch then goes on to explain the benefits of rhodiola and cordyceps by saying: “Primarily, rhodiola has been shown to slow glycogen utilization and increase fatty acid metabolism – so lactic acid build-up is reduced. Cordyceps is even better – with studies showing significant improvements in VO2max–a GOOD thing for any endurance athlete.”
SupplementWatch also rates the value of OPTYGEN by noting: “ OPTYGEN costs $49.95 for a 23-day supply of 90 capsules (but your 2nd bottle would last a full 30 days at 3 capsules/day). The 3 capsule “serving size” provides 200mcg of chelated Chromium, 1000mg of Cordyceps (standardized for 7% cordycepic acid), 800mg of their “ATPro Matrix” and 300mg of Rhodiola Rosea root extract (standardized for 2.5% salidrosides and 1.0% rosavins) – a very high-quality blend for the price. Optygen comes out surprisingly well-priced because it makes your BODY more efficient and faster.”
