at National Time Trials
Bakersfield, CA -- July 15, 2002 - First Endurance rider Gardie Jackson smoked the time trial course at Master's Nationals in Bakersfield, California to get 2nd place in the 35-39 age group. The July 9 race over 34.5km gave Jackson the opportunity to fly by five other riders in recording his time of 45:20.
Jackson continues to attribute his success to a consistently manageable heart rate. "My heart rate in this race was between 189 and 196 the entire time, never going below 189," said Jackson. Jackson noted that he could never sustain such a high heart rate before he started taking Optygen, a First Endurance supplement.
Jackson has been on a roll this racing season. Earlier this year, he set the second fastest time ever recorded at the Saltair TT in Salt Lake City, Utah. The record holder is David Zabriske, who now rides for the United States Postal Service. In April, Jackson took second in the TT at the Chum's Classic Stage Race, only to be beaten by his First Endurance teammate Steve Tibbitts. He then won the Cache Valley Classic Stage Race in May and just recently solo'd the Sugarhouse Criterium that was held on July 13, 2002. Jackson, along with other members of the First Endurance Cycling Team, will be competing in the Men's Elite Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee July 18-20, a race open only to USCF riders with a Cat I license.
