Salt Lake City, UT - July 19, 2004 - First Endurance sponsored triathletes Josiah Middaugh and Jamie Whitmore took top honors against an international stacked field at the Xterra Central Championships in Keystone, Colorado. Whitmore, accustomed to standing on top of the podium sent a message to all other competitors with a convincing eight minute win over the reigning World Champion. Only three short months after starting his Ultragen and Optygen nutrition plan, Middaugh quietly wins is first Pro race.
Middaugh used a punishing bike-leg and strong run to separate himself from European Xterra Champion Nicolas LeBrun and two-time World Xterra Champion Conrad Stoltz. In his home turf, Middaugh aggressively attacked the lung-busting bike course climbing to nearly 12,000 feet, before a fast technical descent down to the Keystone Resort. By T2 Middaugh had the lead, took the run out hard and never looked back. "I've only been using Optygen and Ultragen for a few short months, but have already notice a difference. Optygen seemed to help me recover from all those hard efforts during my training as I prepared for Keystone. On race day, I pushed the bike as hard as I could to the point where my legs felt completely tapped. Starting the run, my legs felt OK and I was able to maintain my pace. I was surprised I could still push my run after such a hard effort on the bike."
Whitmore, motivated from a second place finish at Richmond, took the race out hard and quickly separated herself from a strong Pro field that never had a chance. Whitmore's eight minute win over reigning World Xterra Champion, Melanie McQuaid is one of the most dominating wins in years. "I used Ultragen for the days leading up to the race to make sure I had all the nutrients I needed to race fast. At the top of the climb I drank my Ultragen and went on to post the fastest bike and run of the day. I love that I can recover better than ever and never have to worry about cramps on race day."
