Triathlon Union World Cup
Salt Lake City, UT - November 3, 2003 - First Endurance triathlete Natasha Filliol won her first International Triathlon Union World Cup race in Cancun Mexico November 1, 2003. The twenty three-year-old speedster from British Colombia passed nearly a dozen of the top women triathletes in the world on the run to claim her first win of 2003. In the last 200m, Natasha out sprinted Carla Morena (Brazil) and Vanessa Fernandez (Portugal).
Filliol exited the water and settled into a chase pack forty-five seconds behind the four leaders. With only a 10K run remaining, the lead-pack had increased their lead to 1:15. Natasha quickly got into her run rhythm and started passing her competitors one by one. "When I moved into the lead with 200m to go I had the confidence and fitness to back it up and that was all the difference!" an ecstatic Natasha explains following her victory. " My win at the Cancun ITU World Cup reflects a lot of hard work. I've stepped up my preparation and Optygen has played an important role in allowing me to recover faster and train harder. I feel that I've been able to take my training to a new level this year because I've paid so much attention to recovery. I also feel that Optygen has allowed me to increase my aerobic power."
