Salt Lake City, UT - September 28, 2003 - First Endurance triathletes Steve Larsen and Jamie Whitmore beat the best of the best to win the 2003 Xterra National Championships in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Another First Endurance triathlete, Tyler Johnson was the second American to come across the line in the men's race. The ever-demanding course was a 1500m swim in Lake Tahoe, followed by a grueling 32k bike with over 2000 feet of climbing, and ended with a 10K trail run. Whitmore displayed her overall dominance by shattering the old course record by 5 minutes. Larsen set a new bike record by 4 minutes.
American Jamie Whitmore added Optygen to her training/racing program in June of 2003. Since then, she has won eight of nine races including a European Championship and US National Championship Whitmore uses Optygen to help her acclimate to the demands of racing at altitude. "Since using Optygen, I have been able to sustain a greater intensity for longer time as I climb through some of the steepest roughest terrain. With Optygen, I don't worry about pushing my limit during races." Whitmore's next goal is a Xterra World Championships Title in Maui Hawaii on October 26th, 2003.
Four time World Cycling Champion Steve Larsen took second to South African Conrad Stoltz to claim the US Xterra National Championship. Larsen has been using Optygen for nearly nine months. During this time, Steve has competed in dozens of races including; one Ironman, two ½ Ironmans, three Xterra Championship races and a large percentage of the national road race calendar. His grueling work ethic and race schedule are designed to condition him to win the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. The following weekend Larsen will compete in the 2003 Xterra World Championships in Maui, Hawaii, where he is racing to win the Ironman/Xterra double. "Optygen allows me to train and race at my best" says Larsen.
Had Larsen stumbled during his Xterra Title quest, 23-year-old phenom Tyler Johnson would have taken the title. "I trained very hard at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs this summer. Optygen allowed me to sustain a high volume and high intensity all summer long. During a three-week spurt I opted not to take Optygen and noticed a significant downturn in my performance. Optygen is a great product for anyone that wants to sustain an intense training program throughout the season. I will always train and race with Optygen." Johnson will join Larsen and Whitmore in Maui to race in the 2003 Xterra World Championships on October 26th.
