Salt Lake City, UT - May 20, 2003 - First Endurance is proud to announce that they will be teaming up with cycling phenomenon Fred Rodriguez for the 2003 racing season. Rodriguez, who races for the Division I Italian Vini Caldirola Sidermec , has already picked up where he left off last year. He won the second stage of the Tour of Rhodes, finished 2nd in Italy's season opener, GP Costa degli Bruschi, and won two stages in the Tour of Georgia last month.
Rodriguez will be one of Vini Caldirola Sidermec's main classics leaders, along with Gianluca Bortolami. Fred's results speak for themselves when it comes to the classics. Last year Fred placed 2nd in Milan-San Remo (to current World Champion Mario Cipollini), 2nd at Gent-Wevelgem and 27th in his first Paris Roubaix (while helping teammate Johan Museeuw win the race). Also, as this release is being written, the Vini Caldirola Sidermec team is having an outstanding Giro d'Italia. Stefano Garzelli took over the pink leader's jersey on 5/17/03.
When asked about OPTYGEN , Rodriguez says "I started using OPTYGEN last winter. I wanted see if it would help me in my endurance build up before the classics. The main difference I feel with OPTYGEN is that I am able to maintain my endurance heart rate zones now. In the past, I always had a hard time staying in my target heart rate zones after a couple of weeks of high endurance training. With OPTYGEN, I feel like I can sustain the zone with more ease. This allowed me to continue training in my target zone and helps me achieve better endurance."
